All voters vote? The parties aren’t so sure about that | Cotterell

If there’s one thing Democrats and Republicans can unite behind, it’s the idea that what’s good for them is good for Florida — for America, for history, for all of humanity. That’s why the open-primary idea fails any time some naive legislator files such a bill in the Legislature, and why it took a public petition campaign to get it this far.

The likely result would be to moderate both parties by making candidates appeal to a broad spectrum of voters. Republicans could no longer win by concentrating on the most conservative part of the GOP and Democrats wouldn’t have to constantly appease the far left. 

Who knows? That might lead to Florida having legislators who would talk to each other, even compromise.
